'Early Years Professionals' - Dawn Primarolo

Perhaps you’ve heard the story about a man who helps a butterfly escape from its chrysalis but does it before its wings have had a chance to develop properly so it’s never able to fly. It’s an old, apocryphal story that’s often told to children to demonstrate the value of struggle in helping people reach their potential. But today I think we realise, perhaps more than ever before, that adversity and struggle is not actually the true forger of talent. That disadvantage does not, inevitably, prepare children for a life of success.Instead we know that it is the youngest who require the strongest hand of support. And we know that of all the foundations upon which we build our lives, it is those early years that are the most important.
